Assessment
Assessment should be used to shape teaching.
To this end, assessment will take on many forms in my classroom. Prior to diving into new units and discussions preliminary assessment may be used to gauge the amount of knowledge a class population may or may not already have acquired through previous education or natural experiences. This will inform what I emphasize throughout a lesson. Assessment will also be taking place intermittently throughout a lesson to assess comprehension, which will allow for me to differentiate my method, speed, or tone of covering topics if need be.
Feedback goes hand-in-hand with assessment. The learner will have constant personal feedback in the form of individual conferences, notes, and oral notification.
Types of assessment will range from multiple-choice testing, which will be limited but necessary in preparation for standardized testing as well as a summative evaluation of learned material, to interactive research projects.
